EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 56

PROVIDING FOR THE AUTOMATIC SEPARATION FROM THE SERVICE OF GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES WHO ABSENT THEMSELVES FROM OFFICE, EXCEPT ON ACCOUNT OF ILLNESS, WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THEIR IMMEDIATE SUPERIORS.

By virtue vested in me by law, I, JOSE P, LAUREL, President of the Republic of the Philippines, do hereby order –

Officers and employees of the Government who absent themselves from office, except on account of illness, for a total period of ten days in one month, without the prior permission of their immediate superiors, shall be considered guilty of abandonment of duty, and they shall be automatically separated from the service for cause of effective upon the last day of service rendered prior to the leave immediately preceding the separation. In case of illness, however, the officer or employee shall promptly so inform his immediate superior.

This amends section 2 of Executive Order No. 214, dated September 22, 1943.
