May 10, 1942

Hon. JORGE B. VARGAS
Chairman of the Executive Commission
Manila

SIR:

In connection with the proposed postponement of the reopening date of public schools requested in letter of May 7, 1942, addressed to the Director-General of the Military Administration, you are hereby instructed as follows:

1 The reopening date of public schools shall be June 1, 1942. It is therefore requested that all the necessary preparations be made accordingly.

2. In case the reopening is actually impossible because of temporary use by the Imperial Japanese Forces or other reasons, the schools shall be opened gradually as soon as such reasons ceased.

3. In view of the new situation in the Philippines, you will see that in connection with reopening of schools readjustment of schools and school teachers as well as other matters be based on simplicity and minimization of the expense without prejudice to former practice or precedent existing prior to the closure.

Respectfully,

DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE JAPANESE
MILITARY ADMINISTRATION
